But, even like that, I didn't enjoyed it much. Anthony Walsh, who was rather funny and ironic in the first pages, becomes really sentimental in the end, which was a real shame, because i I read it yesterday night and this morning, as fast as I could.

Anthony Walsh, who was rather funny and ironic in the first pages, becomes really sentimental in the end, which was a real shame, because it quite didn't fit with the first feeling that we get of him. Stanley was, from my point of view, a mix between George, the gay friend of Julia Roberts in "My best friend wedding" and Marshall Trublood, the gay antiques seller in Martha Grimes' crime novels. As for the other characters, they were too uninteresting to bee talked about! Dec 10, d.

A story about relationships. And about lost opportunities to communicate. Between parent and child. Men and women. Men and men. Women and women. Parent and Parent. At its' core, a very nice love story. By a popular and current French writer. View 2 comments. I keep buying Marc Levy's novels because they're nice and cute, nothing more. They're an easy read, they don't required much concentration so are perfect for those times in life when you are more busy than you can handle and need an easy escape.

I'll never reread them but I always lend them. This particular one was a fun read, it is full of humour. Suspension of belief is a requirement, if you're not willing to go along with anything out of the ordinary, then don't bother you won't enjoy it. I'm I keep buying Marc Levy's novels because they're nice and cute, nothing more. I'm not saying more on that subject cause I don't want to spoil it for those who would like to read it. It has of course a love story, two in fact one of fatherly love and one of a first love.

Definitely an enjoyable read, simple, amusing and well written. I recommend for those of you in need of a light read. A love between a parent and a child can easily get distorted as they both get older. In this story, Julia is estranged from her father, Anthony, and is about to get married when she gets the phone call that he's dead. The author writes the story in a way that exposes the past mistakes made by both, Julia and her dad along with current errors she may be making.

The story is lightweight, it includes a blend of expository and descriptive writing styles, and the humor in the story aligns perfectly without insulting the reader. Shelves: fictions-others. As a daughter who actually quite no really close to her father, this book makes me smile, brings back all the good and sad memories in a sweet way.

This book is all about second chances. Julia is forced to postpone her wedding in order to have her father's funeral.

They've been estranged for years. When "he" shows up in her apartment a few days later offering the chance to spend just a few more days together, she accepts hesitantly. The two of them then embark on a trip down memory lane. Julia is forced to remember painful memories about important relationships in her earlier years. She ends up with a chance to reconcile with not just her father. I don't want to say more and ruin the story. This is the second book I've read by Marc Levy and I think he does a marvelous job. I like his characters - they are very normal, yet have incredible experiences. A few days before Julia's wedding she receives bad news, her father died and his funeral will be on the day she's supposed to get married.

Julia can only postpone her big moment and after her father's funeral she goes back to work. When she comes home in the evening there's a crate waiting for her. Inside is her father, who's found a way to come back after his death trying to make amends. Julia and her father didn't have a close connection, but they have a week to change this. Julia's father want A few days before Julia's wedding she receives bad news, her father died and his funeral will be on the day she's supposed to get married.

Julia's father wants to go on a trip and Julia reluctantly agrees to accompany him. She was supposed to go on her honeymoon and they start their journey by using the tickets to Montreal that were meant for her and her husband-to-be instead of her father. When they are in Canada Julia discovers something about the past, a secret that has been kept from her for years.

This shocking news changes the course of their journey completely. They travel from Canada to Europe, where they will start their search. Will these last days with her father make a huge difference in Julia's life? Julia doesn't like her father. She finds his interference annoying and doesn't even fully know how far her father was actually willing to go. My heart ached for everything she lost, but it's not too late for her father to make up for his mistakes.

I loved that Marc Levy has chosen that subject for his story. A lot of parents think they know what's best for their children, but they aren't always right and in this case the father tries to reconnect with his daughter before it's too late and they will never see each other again. The result is a fascinating story. Marc Levy writes about secrets, lies and reconciliation in a great compelling way. I love his easy flowing writing style.
